I was like any other Indian girl very attached to my family. I am the youngest and most pampered one. We used to talk at the dining table about everything happened in a daytime and those deep conversations accompanied with Wow!! What a yummy food . Where are your hands Mamma really want to kiss them . I really miss those fun loving days as well as their amazing pep talks to bring me and my brother up whenever we are down .My father and brother used to pick me up and drop me wherever I have to go whether it’s school, my swimming classes , tuition, shopping , friends place and even to office. My colleagues used to laugh at me but guys actually the fact is they were jealous of me how lucky I am to have such a wonderful family [ Just kidding ]
In college was staying in a hostel very blessed to have great friends who were always there for me. Miss you guys!!
Time flies but love and beautiful memories remain forever , now I am married.
Imagine guys …..it’s still on . Nothing changed, now it’s my dearest husband.
In February I got engaged and after three months got married in May. Everything was so rush rush just like riding a high speed train to get married, it was not less than Shatabdi or Rajdhani express. So finally the wedding train cranks in to action.
Story of every house , had to find a venue, wedding invitation cards distribution, do lot of bookings , arranging everything and then shopping in between there were mixed feelings too.
Me:– I was excited and little nervous too obviously excited because getting a perfect life partner and also my in laws were very good and they have already started treating me like their daughter but despite all of this I was little nervous too as it was arrange marriage. I think its quite natural as I was travelling out of India after marriage ,new place , new faces, new house for life, different culture and most toughest was to leave my house , parents and brother behind.
Parents:- They were extremely happy because getting a perfect life partner and family for their daughter but tensed too as she was going far ,will get a chance to meet only once in a year. And as usual lot of advice say yes to everyone, manage everything very well, give love and respect to everyone, don’t argue with anyone, don’t do this don’t do that AND MAKE US PROUD.
Brother:- He was excited that finally his little sister is getting married to his prince charming and said Don’t take him for granted , Do less shopping and always take care of him otherwise this time have to make international calls to advice you mera toh band bhaj jayega.
It’s been more than 6 years now but today also I remembered that moment when Papa, Mamma n bhai hugged me so tightly and they said we know that you will not let us down we are and will always be proud of you.
Inmy case it was little different it’s not only me, my parents, brother who were going through a lot of Melo drama. But everyone in the family from both sides Mamma and Papa was equally involved . All were happy and little tensed too because everybody knows I am very attached to my parents so pool of emotions were coming out.
Don’t forget it was a typical Indian wedding guys where there was lot of fun, excitement , never ending rituals, Melo drama, delicious food, lavish decorations , entertainment , non stop dance and music. After all we are Indians very much closed and attached to each other . Reminds me of a lovely song “It happens only in India”. Love you all
Oldies in family:- Singapore is far so coming to India only once in a year possible , boy enquiry done or not , can’t rely on NRI boys even their parents don’t know what their children are doing out of Country.
Middle Age:- How you will pass your time there, don’t interact much with strangers, don’t roam around alone late at night , keep calling whenever you get time.
Siblings:- More relaxed and easy going .Now start eating non veg if not then at least curry we don’t think you will get vegetarian food there.
Tayiji and Tayaji who has already been to Singapore so many times said Don’t worry dear we have been to so many countries in the world and we must say that you are very lucky going to the world’s best country Singapore you are going to love it . Our best wishes are always with you and your husband.
I felt so relaxed . All’s well that ends well.
After all I belong to Punjabi khatri family after listening to everyone I replied as expected from me “ Where is my Singapore flight ticket it’s time to pack my suitcase”.
“GANPATI BAPPA MORYA MANGAL MURTI MORAYA”
When first time I came to Singapore with my husband it was all together different world . The airport was so well designed after all Singapore airport is one of the best airport of the world. I was extremely happy to see greenery everywhere so beautiful. Rainy season was going on weather was so pleasant . Our flat was on 2nd floor the view from Window was breathtaking. It was totally different what everyone was saying all turns out to be opposite of that. My first year of marriage visited India twice along with two more countries Indonesia and Malaysia , party almost every weekend , been to so many Indian restaurants and got vegetarian food very easily , made so many friends,. Time flies it’s been more than 6 years in Singapore with Gods grace enjoying a wonderful life with my husband. Jewel opened recently on 17th April 2019 it includes gardens, attractions, aviation facilities and more than 300 retail and dining Facilities. - Singapore is extremely safe country to live in . You can walk the streets late at night without worrying about getting harassed or being stabbed. If you lost your mobile or wallet or anything will find it there only . People are so good tend to find their way back to owner. My husband left his mobile on the back seat of the car . It was on the silent mode. He tried calling so many times from my mobile but nobody picked up . We were tensed but somewhere in our mind we were sure that will get it back. The taxi driver called back and asked us about the exact location especially came all the way to return the mobile.
- Singapore is one of the cleanest and well organised countries in the world. You will find Bins everywhere and these bins are regularly cleared as well. It was the President Lee who drove Singapore to cleanliness through very strict laws and fines. Really appreciate the cleanliness as we walk around the city. You will find road signs spotted around Singapore like Bumpy road sign, Elderly or Blind ahead sign, double yellow lines, zebra crossing sign, slippery road sign etc.
- The food in Singapore is truly amazing . Every block of housing society have their very affordable food courts. You can get 3 course meal for less than 10 sgd. What I loved the most the variety of food offered. You can really find anything of your choice from Indian to Malaysian to American and all.
- There aren’t many places that offer as much green space as Singapore. You will be amazed by how much greenery Singapore has you will notice the abundant trees and beautiful flowers on every corner from super trees to roadside sentinels.
- Singapore has Hindu temples, Buddhist temples , Gurdwaras , Mosques and Churches. Devotees made offerings, prayer rituals, lighted lanterns.
- Public transportation is excellent in Singapore . You just need EZ link card to help you travel with ease. You can walk to the closest bus stop or train station , you can easily get from one end to the other in an hour or so. Affordable public rail networks that helps to reduce traffic congestion.
- Racism is non existent here. Singaporean respect every culture and religion has four official language : English, Tamil, Malay and Mandarin. The population is mainly built of Chinese , Malays and Indians. Festivals are celebrated all year around. Starting the year with Chinese New year, In June Muslims celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri and towards the end of the year celebrate Deepavali with Indians visit each other houses.
- Singapore is family friendly. There are plenty of things to do – enough public parks, playgrounds and gardens .There are many shopping malls and other conveniences in almost every neighbourhood. There is a place called little India in Singapore if you get there during the festivities, you will see lot of lightning and decorations on the streets ,so many stalls overloaded with the decoration items, accessories, traditional wear , lot of sweets , flowers, henna artist were sitting there on the roadside. It was overcrowded during festival days.
- Singapore has so many options around the city late night and 24 hour dining. To enjoy the ultimate nightlife experience Clarke Quay is one of the more happening place where you will find awesome crowd and live bands with nice lounge areas. There are so many nightlife spots in Singapore where you will find bars, clubs and restaurants. Most popular clubs in Singapore are Zouk, Attica, Avalon. Best rooftop bars are 1 Altitude, KU DE TA , New Asia bar , Loof. Best beach clubs are Mambo beach club, Azzura, Tanjong beach club , Wave house.
- Singapore is tourist friendly . There are lot of places to explore like Universal studio, Night safari, Sentosa, Gardens by the bay, Marina Bay sands, Jurong Bird Park, beautiful skyline and many more.
- Singapore is warm all year around. The temperature ranges from 27 degree to 30 degree. It rains a lot so in the evening it’s bit pleasant . No need of winter clothes at all.
- In Singapore there is no communication problem as everyone speaks and understand English .
- Culture of Queuing in Singapore or lining up is very common whether waiting for the taxi , bus , train or making any purchase . They queue for everything which I personally liked the most instead of pushing each other its better to stand in a queue . It saves ur time and the best part is you don’t offend anyone. They believe in first cum first service .
- Singaporean are self disciplined and very helpful .Outsiders get to learn lot of things from them. When taking an escalator the left one is for people to stand and wait and the right side of the escalator is for people walking up the stairs. They follow every rule so religiously . Take off their shoes before entering the house. Anyone sitting on the reserved seats in bus or train which are meant to be for elderly , handicapped or pregnant women or any other seat give up their seat immediately irrespective of what language you speak or the colour of your skin.
- In Singapore don’t expect a tip. At restaurants or cafe your bill will include goods and services tax and service charge . There is no need to tip them if you leave extra money or change for the waiters they will return you. The taxi drivers are very honest and hardworking not over charged whether you are local or outsider they have proper meter reading.
- The healthcare system in Singapore is accessible affordable and efficient .
- Singapore has strong education system very good schools and teachers . They provide great facilities that are amongst the best in the world. They have biggest local universities NTU and NTS both feature very highly in the QS world university rankings.
